The UNDF main force

There is a civil war in neighboring Federal Republic of Mumbia raging on between the rogue dictatorship and Ubunto-backed Mumbia Separatist Front. President Osumi has been backing  is eager for a reason to send his seasoned troops across the border into Mumbia to seize her southern oil fields. The Mumbian Civil War has turned to a stalemate with both the Mumbian Grand Army of the Republic and Mumbia Separatist Front gearing up for renewed offensives. Osumi has made speeches advocating intervention to topple the Mumbian government and spreading the Marxist revolution. Currently however, unrest over the price of wheat and oil has postponed any notions of invasion.

I plan to add at least one more T-55 and another wheeled fighting vehicle to the force in the future. Probably a technical.

UNDF Infantry and mortar support

The Ubunto National Defense Force is well supplied with Russian tanks, AK-74s, RPG-7s, PK machine guns  and outfitted in a khaki/green/brown camo uniform. Russian trained crews operate these Soviet and UK built mortars. The helmeted crew are Old Glory Middle Eastern regular Inf Support and the others are OG African Irregular Inf Support crew.

 The three mortar battery.

Next up is the UNDF infantry platoon. Old Glory African Irregulars in the aforementioned camo. The Captain is an Old Glory Middle Eastern Regular commander and the Russian KGB agent with the shotgun is a GZG armed Sci-Fi civilian.
I had a lot of fun painting these guys. The light machine gunner in the command squad is from Peter Pig.

Osumi's army is made up of scores of light infantry like these and backed by armored brigades.
 Some close ups.

Some shots of the UNDF attacking.

 The KGB Agent Vasily Zhukov.

Armored units of the Ubunto National Defense Force.

Here are the first armored offerings of Soviet-backed UNDF of the Democratic People's Republic of Ubunto. President Osumi's men are Russian trained and equipped. Here are some PT-76s from Old Glory. As Ubunto is covered is marshlands and jungle, there are many rivers and bodies of water for fighting vehicles to ford through.
They would surely be difficult targets for the Sherman tanks of the ULA.

T-55s make up the bulk of UNDF's armored brigades. In recent weeks President Osumi has ordered T-55s onto the streets of Mumbusa, Ubunto's capitol to quell popular unrest against the Ubunto Worker's Party's dictatorship.

The ULA in its entirety

Here's Colonel Montcalm's CIA-backed Ubunto Liberation Army in it's complete form.
 Down with Osumi!
Here ULA disembark from their armed transport and open fire on UNDF soldiers.
I loved painting up their technical. It's truly ready to lay down some intense anti personnel fire. Colonel Montcalm directs the barrage.
 Fire!
I'll be posting pics of my other factions soon. Next up are the ULA's oppoents, the UNDF.

Infantry and fire support of the ULA

Up next I've painted up some infantry support. Two Soviet manufactured mortars and one American portable 75mm howitzer. Pierre Montcalm has not been able to muster up and train the scores of men needed to take on Osumi's Ubunto National Defense Force in pitched battle, so he decides he will wage guerrilla war until the ULA gains more recruits. Carefully placed mortar teams will launch surprise barrages while the infantry attack and harass UNDF patrol and supply lines.
Here we have the footsloggers. Trained to move quietly through the jungle and take on UNDF with ambushes and hit and run attacks.
Old Glory's African Irregular minis could be better sculpted, but are fun and easy to paint up overall.
The next stage for these minis is to sand and flock their bases.
This platoon is determined to bring the fight to Osumi's door.

Ubunto Liberation Army main battle tanks

Discontentment with the ruling regime in Democratic Republic of Ubunto grows with each day. President Osumi crushes his political opponents and those of the Ubunto Workers Party with death and imprisonment. Osumi's heavy handed policies have made him unpopular in the jungle covered southwestern Ubunto. The CIA has taken on the task of ensuring Ubunto wrests itself from Moscow's grip and a US-friendly government be installed.

The ULA (with the help of CIA advisors) have repaired and refitted five M4 Sherman 76mm tanks abandoned by soldiers of the previous colonial French regime.

Colonel Pierre Montcalm leads the ULA and vows to rid Ubunto of the "the veil that Moscow has placed in front of her eyes. Communism shall be removed and Osumi toppled."

The tanks are Battlefront with Old Glory tank crew. I bought the FoW Sherman tank company box some years ago but never really put them to any good use until now.
The crewman above right is an Old Glory African Irregular radioman. I cut his body in half and set him in.
The tanks were fun to paint.

Vive la Ubunto!

Ubunto Liberation Army's first offerings!

The People's Democratic Republic of  Ubunto is located in West Africa. Most of the country is ontrolled by the Soviet-backed Ubunto Worker's Party dicatorship headed by President Osumi. On the southwestern coastline, the CIA has been secretly and quietly training what has become the Ubunto Liberation Army. They are armed with stolen Soviet small arms and RPGs. They've been provided with aging WW2 era US vehicles and light weapons. They expect to face T-55s and PT-76s manned by Ubunto National Defense Force crew.

First up is a ZPU-2 technical. The mini is an Old Glory US deuce and a half truck with a QRF ZPU-2 AA gun with crew.
Every transport should have some firepower. QRF crew with HMG.

Old Glory US jeep with QRF crew.

Old Glory Stuart. Ready to support infantry. More Ubunto Liberation Army on the way.
